What is a license?
  • a government document that allows you to do an activity
  • There are many kinds of permits, authorizations, clearances, approvals, etc., and the ones relating to business activities are posted on the e-Portal as “licenses”

Licensing regime
  • Nepal has institutional and legal framework required for registration of company, private firm, and partnership firm
  • Public companies, private companies, and company established with an objective of not distributing profits/ dividends are registered according to Company Act 2063 by Office of Company Registrar
  • partnership and private firms need to register either in Department of Industry or Department of Cottage and Small Industries under Ministry of Industry or in Department of Commerce under Ministry of Commerce and Supplies, based on the nature of their business

  • The e-Portal is an initiative of the Government of Nepal’s Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and the National Information Technology Center, with the cooperation of all government bodies that issue licenses
  • The e-Portal is supported by the International Finance Corporation
  • Users of this portal include the public user, business persons, government agencies, academicians, aspiring entrepreneurs and System Administrators

  • Nepali businesses, large and small, can access detailed information on relevant business licenses and permits, including requirements, cost, application forms and contact details for relevant regulatory agencies
